This has nothing to do with our story line as it isn't real. But about a month ago, I had a very funny thought and it keeps circulating, so I'm going to put it here.
I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This is actually a big part of the reason I love US History so much. We believe that around 600 BC, a family came over to this part of the world from Jerusalem. They formed two nations. They became warring nations and then one nation again. Then the Savior visited them. Then they became two nations again. They warred and warred until one nation was completely extinct. Then that nation divided into smaller groups and they warred forever. But a promise was given in the book that the righteous would inherit this land and their freedoms were tied to their righteousness.
When it was time for Christ's church to be restored, we had this land. The Church was officially restored in 1830, so a bit away in terms of the timeline I'm on in my studies. But I can't help thinking about how the founding fathers would have responded to the message of the gospel- of a God and Savior who knew us before we came to earth, a Savior who sacrificed his life so we could eventually return to live with our Heavenly Father, Heavenly Mother, Jesus, and our families.
These are a little bit silly, but here are my predictions of what WOULD have been:
George Washington- I think he would have listened, with skepticism at first, but then felt like it was true. I think he wouldn't have actually joined in this life because of the repercussions it would have to those he was in charge of, but I think he would have asked in his will for his work to be done .
John Adams- I think he would have known the truth of it right away, but hemmed and hawed and been anxious until Abigail said, "John," in that tone she has, "Are you more concerned with your eternal happiness or what Hamilton will write about you?" and then he'd have been all in.
Thomas Jefferson- He would have listened very politely to the missionaries. He'd have asked questions, offered refreshments, kept setting dates to have discussions.... and then written letters to Madison mocking everything about all of it, though deep in side, feeling like maybe it really was true.
Madison- Wouldn't have even let the missionaries in. Mocked relentlessly in his letters to Jefferson.
Lafayette- I <3 that man. I think he would have joined immediately. And offered to pay for the Kirtland temple to be built, singlehandedly.
Hamilton- I think he would have been contentious to the missionaries and then written anti pamphlets, and then joined the church on the way to the duel and told Eliza about it while he was dying, saying he hopes they'll be together for eternity.
I might add to this list as I learn about more people. I hope it gave you a chuckle.
